Stephen Newton: Etchings 1998-2000

“As can be seen, Newton obviously doesn’t stick to the rules; because he quickly realised that in the whole process of printing, for a Fine Artist, the rules are the guidelines only: each print is an experiment. When making an etching he often agonises over the background that the drawing sits upon. This background is often ‘accidentally’ achieved, and when he has his perfect background, it is usually with very little effort; it arrives by knowing how to use the accidental.” Mick Wooton
